Matt Collings and Rick Zessar have joined the team at ditch, a Minneapolis-based postproduction studio.

Collings will take on responsibilities as ditch’s resident Flame and Smoke artist. Collings moved to the Twin Cities in 2005 and joined Fischer Edit. A gifted visual effects and finishing artist, Collings has worked extensively with agencies including Peterson Milla Hooks, OLSON, Periscope, Gabriel deGrood Bendt, Campbell Mithun, donatwald + haque, and Target. His recent clients include Burger King, Key Bank, Famous Footwear, United HealthCare Group, Cox Communications, Red Robin, and Mini.

“Matt marks a major turning point for ditch,” said Brody Howard, editor and founder of ditch. “His reputation and artistry precede him and we are thrilled to have him in our premiere finishing suite.”

“Ditch has gained a reputation for excellence over the past five years,” said Collings. “I’m thrilled to be joining their great staff.”

Zessar will serve as the company’s first executive producer. He spent the six years in Dallas as an agency producer for Publicis and The Richards Group before shifting to postproduction, first as a producer for Reel FX Creative Studios and then as a senior producer at Fast Cuts. After 19 years in Dallas, Zessar said he’s looking forward to a change of scenery.

“Having worked with Brody some years ago in Dallas, we’ve talked from time to time about joining forces in Minneapolis and I’m ecstatic that the opportunity is now here,” Zessar explained. “He’s put together a great company with great people, and I’m excited to be part of the team and eager to help ditch grow.”

“Rick is the ditch vibe personified,” Howard said. “His unflappable style translates into a terrific experience for everyone. He reminds me how fun our job is supposed to be.”

Collings and Zessar join a growing roster of freelance creative editors at ditch. Carrie Shanahan, an Emmy award-winning editor, recently signed on for exclusive Midwest representation after working for 15 years in the Chicago, New York and Minneapolis markets, cutting spots for clients like Subaru, Citi, Macy’s and Target. Brian Slater, an editor and director formerly with Runner Runner, also recently joined the company’s freelance roster.

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

1
Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
