New Montreal VFX Convention to Launch in June

EFFECTS MTL - effects MTL to launch its very first edition in MoEFFECTS MTL - effects MTL to launch its very first edition in MoConnection Events announced that it will launch Effects MTL – a new international convention for the visual effects and animation sector. The event is scheduled for June 10 -11 at the Mont-Royal Centre in Montreal.

”The province of Quebec is a prime location to host an international convention such as Effects MTL as it is recognized worldwide for its innovation and creativity in the visual effects and animation industry,” said event director Marine Lelièvre. “It’s crucial to consolidate the industry and to promote its international influence by bringing together key players.”

Effects MTL will offer four main components focused around business development. An expo zone will include a job fair. The conference will offer more than 30 sessions selected by an international advisory board. The four main conference tracks will be: art, techno, VFX and business/production. A business lounge will be dedicated to business development, including the possibility to meet with international buyers thanks to an online matchmaking application. In addition, other special events will provide networking opportunities to help strengthen professional relationships.

Connection Events, which also runs Game Connection (Paris, San Francisco) and the Montreal International Game Summit (MIGS), has issued a call for speakers. For more information, visit www.effectsmtl.com.

Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
