Burbank-based visual effects studio FuseFX has hired veteran VFX Producer Andrea D’Amico. D’Amico arrives with more than 25 years of experience in visual effects, including tenures at Eden FX, Digital Domain, RIOT, P.O.P. and CIS Hollywood. Most recently, she served as VFX producer at MPC Montreal, on Fox‘s Victor Frankenstein.

At FuseFX, D’Amico joins the visual effects team on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. FuseFX has received two Emmy nominations and three VES award nominations for its work on the show.

“Andrea brings deep experience, savvy and a passion for visual effects,” said FuseFX president David Altenau. “We’re very pleased to welcome a pro of her caliber to our team and expect to make full use of her talents.”

D’Amico’s many television credits include Warner Bros.Person of Interest, Ghost Whisperer and HBO‘s Angels in America. Features include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network and Superman Returns. She was nominated for an Emmy award in 2008 for her work on the History Channel‘s TV movie Life After People.

D’Amico has also held executive posts at Ascent Media. She began her career in New York at Charlex and EFX Unlimited.

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
