Formosa Group to Re-Open Former POP Sound Facility

-

LR-Formosa Group Re-Opens Former POP FacilityThe Formosa Group announced that it will re-open POP Sound‘s Santa Monica-based audio facility, which closed July 7, laying off approximately 15-20 employees.

“We are pleased to re-open this outstanding postproduction sound facility,” said Formosa Group president and COO Robert Rosenthal. “With this addition, we will now have an expanded west side presence. It also enables the core clientele to continue their great work here with many of the accomplished creative artists and support staff formerly associated with POP.”

The facility consists of 10 mixing stages, eight voice-over booths and an ADR stage. The facility will be refurbished and rebranded for an early August launch.

Formed in 2013 by parent company Picture Head, Formosa Group is a postproduction sound company. Based at The Lot in West Hollywood, the company also has a second West Hollywood location, along with West L.A. and Burbank locations.

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

1
Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
