The Critics Choice Association (CCA) — of which Below the Line Editor Edward Douglas is a member– announced the nominations for its 26th Annual Critics Choice Awards, which will be handed out on March 7 live on The CW from 7pm to 10pm Eastern with actor Taye Diggs hosting. Critics Choice Awards are given out in both film and television categories with the CCA made up of over 300 critics from around the world divided into the two chapters.
David Fincher‘s Mank led the nominations with 12 including Best Picture, Best Director, acting nominations for Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried, Best Original Screenplay and multiple technical nominations. Lee Isaac Chung‘s Minari followed with 10 nominations
Unlike many other critics’ groups, the CCA makes a special effort to honor the below-the-line artisans in six categories: Cinematography, Production Design, Hair and Makeup, Editing, Costume Design, and Visual Effects. Netflix films Mank, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom had a noticeable presence in many categories with Minari and George Clooney‘s The Midnight Sky also getting multiple nominations. Netflix series The Crown and Ozark received the most nomination for any of the series nominated, similar to how it performed with Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild nominations last week.
Netflix dominated both categories for a total of 72 nominations, followed by HBO/HBO Max with 24 nominations and Amazon Studios with 18.
