Micah Scarpelli Launches Postproduction Company Uppercut in NYC

-

LR-uppercut-mainEditor Micah Scarpelli has opened the doors to his own full-service, New York City-based editorial/postproduction company, Uppercut. The facility features several editorial and Flame suites among other postproduction offerings.

Uppercut has hired Joe Wenkoff, who brings over 20 years of VFX/post experience and will serve as partner and creative director of visual effects, including finishing and color correction. During his career, Wenkoff has served as a Flame artist, compositor and VFX supervisor for a host of talent and brands such as Volvo, Nike, AT&T, Budweiser and M&M’S.

Uppercut has also hired Alvaro del Val, who arrives in New York City after spending the last three years as a senior editor at Madrid/Dubai-based production studio, Serena. During his time there, del Val cut campaigns for a who’s who of global clients including McDonald’s, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan. His experience in the automotive sector fits in with his new role as editor at Uppercut, which counts Volvo North America as a top client.

After spending the majority of his career working at large editorial/post companies, Uppercut will allow Scarpelli to work in a more intimate, boutique-style environment built around a grassroots mindset. “A small, independent shop has huge advantages,” Scarpelli said. “We have the freedom to care for our clients and projects. I’m very selective about the people on my team, so we can offer the best client experience.”

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

1
Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
