Q-TEC Selects Pablo Rio

-

Tokyo-based post house Q-TEC has invested in a turnkey Pablo Rio 4K HFR color and finishing system from Quantel for its animation department. Q-TEC now has a total of 18 Quantel systems in house, making it the largest Quantel-based post facility in the world.

Based in Akasaka, Tokyo, QTEC provides editing, CG/VFX production, 3D conversion, offline editing and DI services for animation projects.

Pablo Rio runs on high performance PC hardware and exploits NVIDIA Maximus multi-GPU technology to deliver real-time performance at 4K 60P.

“Pablo Rio was a natural choice when looking ahead to 4K future at Q-TEC,” said Tomonori Furusako, Q-TEC’s managing director for postproduction and technical services. “The system will primarily be used for animated movie production. Pablo Rio’s user interface is very familiar to our editors so we have a very short training time and can really get the most out of the system and our team. As well as its comprehensive color and finishing toolset, Pablo Rio’s integrated paint facility is tremendously useful for the kind of projects we do.”

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

1
Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
