Minneapolis-based Splice is in the midst of contributing extensive postproduction support for the original documentary series America Unearthed for History Channel‘s H2. Conceived by Andy Awes and Maria Awes of Committee Films, the Splice team is providing design, 3D graphics, online edit, color, sound design and audio mix for the new series. America Unearthed is a huge hit for the network, and has become the #1 series of all time on H2. The success of the series has garnered a greenlight for a second season, which will begin shooting this spring.

In America Unearthed, forensic geologist Scott Wolter reveals that the history we all learned in school may not always be the whole story. Across the country, ancient symbols, religious relics and unexplained artifacts suggest that civilizations from around the world have left their mark for us to find today. Wolter not only digs through the surprising burial ground that is America for archeological secrets, but he also uncovers compelling evidence that pre-dates the official “discovery” of the New World and turns a lot of what we think we know about American history on its head.

Splice has previously collaborated with show runner Andy Awes and executive producer/series producer Maria Awes on documentary series such as Holy Grail In America, Who Really Discovered America? and most recently, Mystery Of Easter Island for NOVA and National Geographic, as well as a number of commercial and advertising projects directed by Andy Awes.

According to Andy Awes, this new series is the largest project he has brought to Splice. “With this new series, we are really building on the collaboration we had established previously on three other documentary projects,” he said. “But this is our first attempt to produce something on 10 times the scale, under a very tight timeline. Our collaboration with Splice is truly an invaluable relationship. This show is so complex, with so many elements that are required. Splice is not only a great creative partner, they are also very collaborative from a logistical point of view, which is imperative on a series of this size with 13 episodes.”

Splice post producer Lynn Anderson noted that she has collaborated with Awes for a number of years on both television and commercial projects. “We have always identified Andy as a great creative talent, and Committee Films as a production company doing exceptional work,” she said. “We wanted to partner with Andy on his creative projects in order to help him be as successful as possible.”

This partnership starts at the beginning of projects such as America Unearthed, with the Splice team helping to build a polished pitch reel, including full look development for the graphics package. “We have developed a creative short-hand with Andy over the years, so we are able to streamline the process on the sheer volume of elements that need to be approved by Committee Films and also the network. We are thrilled that this new series is doing so well, and look forward to working on more episodes in the months ahead,” Anderson said.
