Celebrating one year in business, London-based VFX house Milk is currently serving as the lead VFX studio for Fox‘s action-thriller, 24: Live Another Day.

The company is creating a mix of CG and effects work for the series. In addition to the typical action-packed 24 repertoire of explosions, Milk has created the CG drones that chase Jack Bauer through London; blood enhancement; effects work including CG water, fire and smoke, and a range of effects to be revealed in upcoming episodes.

Set and shot in London, the series follows the exploits of agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). It is the first U.S. drama to shoot in the U.K. following the implementation of the high end TV tax incentive in April 2013.

“We were extremely excited to be asked to be part of a U.K. 24,” said Will Cohen, CEO and founder of Milk VFX. “Working on a high profile television show that is chasing transmission is always a challenge but Milk is well set up in terms of technical pipeline and experienced key crew to be able to turn around VFX shots very quickly, at a high standard.”

The company is also currently in production on the eighth season of Doctor Who for the BBC and the new TV drama Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell – a seven part mini-series due to be broadcast on BBC One in 2015.

In addition, the company is completing work on Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer PicturesHercules for director Brett Ratner.

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

1
Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
