The Foundry announced the release of MARI for the Mac. The company’s 3D digital painting application allows artists to paint directly onto 3D models using super high-resolution textures and millions of polygons.

In March 2013, The Foundry launched MARI 2 featuring a new, artist-focused layer system. The company announced MARI for the Mac in June at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

“We announced that MARI would be coming to the Mac at WWDC 2013 earlier this year, and are excited to be releasing it to the market today,” said Jack Greasley, MARI product manager at The Foundry. “MARI is such a powerful and artist-friendly application. We know MARI is a great fit for the Mac and can’t wait to see what users can do with this truly amazing tool on Apple’s hardware.”

The application was originally developed at Weta Digital to enable the groundbreaking visuals on James Cameron’s Avatar. The Foundry took over development of MARI in April 2010 and released MARI 1.0 in July that year.

The company is offering Mac users a free 15-day trial of the software.
