Creative Arts Emmys
2021 Creative Arts Emmys

On Saturday, September 11, the first group of Creative Arts Emmys were handed out at a live in-person ceremony at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. The three ceremonies will be edited down to a two-hour show that will air on FXX on September 18.

The first night’s ceremony included awards for makeup, hairstyling, production design, costumes, cinematography, picture editing, sound editing, sound mixing, main title design, and a few others.

The Netflix  limited series, The Queen’s Gambit, was the big winner of the night, seemingly sweeping every one of its categories by winning seven Emmys, while the Netflix drama, The Crown, no stranger to the Emmys, added two more.

Apple‘s hit comedy, Ted Lasso, began its Emmy run with two wins at the first of three Creative Arts ceremonies, for its editing and sound mixing. The recently-concluded FX drama Pose won three Emmys for costumes, makeup and hairstyling.

The Lucasfilm/Disney+ Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, won three Emmys for prosthetic makeup, cinematography, and sound mixing.  Marvel Studios’ WandaVision won an Emmy for its production design by Mark Worthington and another one for its fantasy costumes.

HBO took home four Emmys, one each for Mare of EasttownLovecraft CountryA Black Lady Sketch Show, and American Utopia.

NBC‘s Saturday Night Live added three more Emmys to its long list of wins from the past 45 years, for contemporary hairstyle and makeup, as well as for its production design.
