DGA Announces 73rd Annual Awards Winners; Chloé Zhao Takes Top Prize for Nomadland

dga25764203692190964442.jpgThe start of the first of three big awards weekends continued on Saturday, April 10, 2021, with the Directors Guild of America‘s 73rd Annual DGA Awards for Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film and Television for 2020.

Nomadland Director Chloé Zhao became only the second woman to win the DGA’s top award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film and also the first woman of color. Sound of Metal Director Darius Marder took home the DGA for first-time feature film, while the directors of The Truffle Hunters won in the documentary category. Scott Frank received his first DGA for the Netflix limited series, The Queen’s Gambit, which also won an ADG Award last night.

Zhao’s win marked a night where five women were honored with DGA Awards, including Susanna Fogel for The Flight Attendant and Homeland‘s Lesli Linka GlatterDirector Betty Thomas also received the Robert B. Aldrich Award, making her only the second woman to receive that honor.
