MPC LA Delivers VFX and Color for New HTC Campaign

-

LR-Blah_Blah_30_still2MPC LA recently teamed up with RESET director Johnny Green and Deutsch LA on an ad campaign for HTC. In a rare commercial appearance by acclaimed British actor Gary Oldman, the campaign relies on an unconventional and clever twist to unveil the HTC One M8 smartphone. Instead of focusing on the device’s features, the campaign goes against the grain with an understated approach that challenges viewers to “ask the Internet” if they wish to learn more about the HTC One, which is ultimately “designed for people who form their own opinions.”

MPC developed subtle visual effects to craft the perfect atmosphere without overwhelming Oldman’s witty performance and provide a welcome change to the bright, cheerful ads from rivals.

Led by Mark Holden, the MPC VFX team provided the dramatic cityscape matte paintings throughout the campaign to bring the iconic Hollywood Hills environment to life. Colorist Mark Gethin was integrally involved, carrying out initial color then a master grade once the backgrounds were composited to set the perfect mood and tone.

Vicon Introduces Mobile Mocap at SIGGRAPH

1
Motion capture systems developer Vicon is previewing a futuristic new “Mobile Mocap” technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver. Moving mocap out of the lab and into the field, Vicon's Mobile Mocap system taps several new technologies, many years in the making. At the heart of Mobile Mocap is a very small lipstick-sized camera that enables less obtrusive, more accurate facial animation data. The new cameras capture 720p (1280X720) footage at 60 frames per second. In addition, a powerful processing unit synchronizes, stores, and wirelessly transmits the data, all in a tiny wearable design.
