Robert Porter

SpotGenie has named Robert Porter vice president of sales, Western Region. This announcement came from SpotGenie president/CEO Wayne Dykes.

In his new post, Porter, an industry veteran with vast experience in the advertising, media and postproduction service industries, will be responsible for launching SpotGenie’s proprietary advertising distribution services on the West Coast, and for business development in all market segments from entertainment and agency accounts to wholesale distributor opportunities. He will work closely with, and report directly to, Dykes and SpotGenie head of marketing, Rudy Fernandez.

Over the past two decades, Porter has held a number of senior sales and client service management positions with advertising distribution firms including DG, Vyvx, AGT, and SpotLink, all of which are today part of the DG Systems family. Based on the West Coast, he held the position of regional account manager at DG, major account manager at Williams Communication (Vyvx – Advertising Distribution Services), regional account manager at Schawk!, Inc./Anthem! Worldwide (AGT/SpotLink Broadcast Services), regional account executive at Initiative (Western International Media & SpotLink Division), and, earlier in his career, assistant account executive at Admarketing, Inc.

With each new position, Porter assumed increasing levels of responsibility, developed new business opportunities and grew his accounts from $1.3 million to over $16 million with major entertainment and advertising agency wins. In the process, he built strong relationships with film studios including 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney and Columbia TriStar Pictures, and with some of the world’s most influential ad agencies including Campbell-Ewald, Dailey, Initiative, Leo Burnett, McCann, MediaCom, Palisades and The Richards Group. He also helped to steward the merger of several acquired companies, ensuring a seamless integration of the sales force.

“Rob hit the ground running and has successfully introduced SpotGenie’s sophisticated suite of services to major film studios and ad agencies, and will continue to identify major opportunities for growth not only in the west, but also with national accounts, collaborating with SpotGenie management to provide new business and marketing support,” Dykes said.

“There is a saying, ‘The second mouse gets the cheese,’” Porter said. “The companies that were the first to offer digital spot delivery invested millions in servers and hardware. Due to advances in bandwidth and SpotGenie’s proprietary technology, I am convinced that this is the company to bring spot delivery and distribution into the new century. SpotGenie is the only technology company able to deliver HD television spots for about the price of SD – that’s about an 80 percent savings – and they do it nationwide. I love being part of an innovative company. With SpotGenie’s technology and customer service, there is no limit to what we can accomplish together.”

Porter earned his Bachelor of Arts from Saint Leo University, graduating with honors. He served on active duty and in the reserves in the Marine Corps and Army for nearly 14 years, and continues to serve in the Army Reserve. Born in American Samoa, he has lived all over the world, including Iraq, Kuwait, Bangladesh, and Japan and currently makes him home in California’s San Fernando Valley with his wife Seow Leng Porter, a managing partner at MediaCom, and their two children.
